Combine sugar, milk and oleo (cut into thin slices) in a 4-quart heavy saucepan.

Stir constantly with wooden spoon until mixture comes to a full boil. Allow to boil for 2 minutes.

Remove from heat and add marshmallows and stir until marshmallows have dissolved and mixture is smooth.
