Portuguese Bean Soup

   Simmer ham hock and sausage in water for an hour in a large soup pot; add more water if necessary. Add the tomato sauce, onion, potatoes, carrot and cabbage and cook another half an hour or until tender. Remove the ham hock and let cool. Pull any meat off the bone and return it to the pot with the beans. Simmer until heated through and serve.
