1
Preheat oven to 160C/320F.
-
2
Break up the chocolate and heat in a sauce pan with the water over low heat so it melts slowly (important!).
-
3
Watch the chocolate so it doesnt burn, stir constantly and dont let the water boil.
-
4
When you see its almost melted, remove from heat and let the remaining heat in pan finish the melting.
-
5
Now you have the chocolate soup.
-
6
Set aside for now.
-
7
In a bowl or mixer, add the butter (should be soft) with the sugar and mix well.
-
8
Then mix in one egg at a time.
-
9
When you have added the last egg into the mixture, it should be crumbly.
-
10
Finally mix the flour with the baking powder and cocoa powder and sift to get rid of the lumps.
-
11
Add it to the butter and egg mixture and mix.
-
12
Lastly pour in the chocolate soup from earlier and stir in a circular motion until all ingredients are well incorporated.
-
13
Line a cake mold with baking paper and pour the batter in.
-
14
Bake for about 50 minutes.
-
15
The exact time depends on your oven so start checking after 40 minutes.
-
16
Youll know when its almost ready because your house will begin to smell like chocolate :)
-
17
To check if its ready, poke with a knife - if it comes out dry its good to go.
-
18
Let the cake cool completely.
-
19
This is very important because the sugar will melt if it is not completely cool.
-
20
Remove the cake from the mold and place on a plate with a paper lace doily.
-
21
Cut a skull pattern out of paper (or other halloween shape) and place on the cake.
-
22
Using a fine sieve or colander, sprinkle with the powdered sugar.
