Put yeast into the warm water and add 1 tsp sugar from the 1/4 c. Let stand a few minutes so the yeast begins to work, then add remainder of the sugar, egg, shortening and salt.

Beat with electric mixer.

Add the flour and mix on low speed.

Have floured area ready to put the dough on.

Use flour on hand and rolling pin. Roll the dough by hand a little on the floured board, and then pat or roll the dough out less than 1/2 inch thick.

Brush melted butter over dough and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon mixture. Raisins may be added if desired.

Roll the dough as for jelly roll. Cut in 1/2 inch slices.

Place on greased cookie sheet and let rise until double in size.
