Mix with mixer, margarine to soften. Add sugar, creaming well until light and fluffy. Add egg and beat well.

Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternating with milk a little at a time, mixing smooth after each addition. (tip.. add dry ingredients first, then some milk and repeat until done. Remember to add dry ingredients last for a smooth batter)

Add cherries (remember mixed with one tablespoon flour to keep them from sinking to the bottom) and syrup mixing until smooth.

Grease bottom of a 8x8 baking pan. Pour in batter and bake at 325 degrees for 45 to 55 minutes. Check after 45 minutes for doneness.
