Quaker Oats (Quick or possibly old fashioned, uncooked); 1 1/2 c. all purpose flour; 1/2 teaspoon baking soda; 1 1/2 c. chocolate chips; 4 teaspoon vegetable shortening; 1/3 c. minced peanuts (optional)

1 1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 c. creamy or possibly chunk-style peanut butter
3/4 c. butter
1/3 c. water
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 c. Quaker Oats (Quick or possibly old fashioned, uncooked)
1 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 c. chocolate chips
4 teaspoon vegetable shortening
1/3 c. minced peanuts (optional)

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Beat together brown sugar, peanut butter and butter till light and fluffy.

Blend in water, egg and vanilla.

Add in combined dry ingredients; mix well.

Shape dough into 1 inch balls.

Place on ungreased cookie sheet; flatten to 1/4 inch thickness with bottom of glass dipped in sugar.

Bake 8-10 min or possibly till edges are golden.

In heavy saucepan over low heat, heat chocolate pcs and vegetable shortening; stir till mix is melted and smooth.

Top each cookie with 1/2 tsp.

melted chocolate; sprinkle with nuts.

Refrigeratetill set.

To heat chocolate in microwave, place chips and shortening in glass container.

Microwave on high for 1-2 min, stirring after 1 minute and then every 30 seconds till chocolate is melted and smooth.
