Sift flour into a bowl and make a well in the center. Add yeast, milk and 1/2 the sugar and knead until smooth, cover and let proof in a warm place for 30 mins. Combine butter, remaining sugar, 1/2 tsp salt, lemon zest and cardamom. Add to dough and knead with the dough hook of a mixer until smooth. Add almonds, raisins, currants and candied peel, knead again and let proof for another 30 mins in a warm place.

Preheat oven to 425u00b0F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Shape dough into a 12 x 5 inch loaf, place on prepared pan and let rest in a warm place for 15 mins. Bake for about 15 mins then turn oven down to 400u00b0F and bake for another 45-50 mins, covering with foil if necessary. Serve dusted with powdered sugar.
