2 tsp. vanilla

4 c. scalded milk
3 c. cubed day old or older bread
2/3 c. raisins
1 peeled apple, diced (optional)

Mix eggs, sugar, salt, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg together. Mix remaining ingredients together.

Lightly butter 2 quart baking dish.

Add egg and sugar mixture.

Add milk mixture slowly stirring lightly.

Dot with 2 tablespoons butter or margarine.

Set in deep pan hot water and bake at 350u00b0 about 1 hour.
