3 1/2 cups water
1 each garlic cloves minced
1 tablespoon soup, chicken, mix
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup carrots sliced
1 1/2 cups milk, skim
1 each onions chopped
1/4 cup flour, all-purpose
1/2 cup pearl barley
4 ounces cheddar cheese diced

Combine all but last 3 ingredients in 3 qt pot.

Bring to boil, then simmer 15 minutes until barley is tender.

Mix flour into 1/2 cup milk and add.

Add rest of milk.

Cook about five minutes until thickened.

Remove from heat and stir in cheese.

Cover and let stand 3 to 5 minutes.
