Add remaining 1 cup sugar in 2 tablespoon portions, sprinkling it over the surface; and beat in.

Fold in flour mixture in 4 portions, gently but thoroughly.

Pile lightly in ungreased tube rinsed with cold water.

Insert knife and circle batter twice to cut any air pockets.

Bake in 375u00b0 oven for 35 minutes.

Touch surface lightly with fingertip; when cake shrinks from sides of pan, it is done. Invert pan and cool thoroughly, about 1 hour before removing cake. Serve uniced or frost with Boiled White Frosting.
