These Cuban pastries can be seen at every bakery in Miami, but I had no idea how easy they were to make at home! If you've never heard of guava, it has a similar taste to a strawberry rhubarb filling.

2
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Thaw puff pastry according to the package directions.
-
3
Line a 9 x 13 cookie sheet with parchment paper so the guava won't stick. Unfold one of the pastry sheets and lay flat on the sheet.
-
4
Cut guava into 1/4 inch slices (or however thick you'd like them to be) and place two slices side by side, about 1/2 inch apart from the next pair of guava slices (you will need two slices for each pastelito). Spread cream cheese over guava slices.
-
5
Unfold second pastry sheet and cover the guava slices. Press the top sheet down and cut into desired sizes, cutting around the guava slices, before baking. If you're using a 9x13, you should have about 15 pastelitos on the sheet.
-
6
To add a slight glaze on top, beat together egg white and sugar. Brush glaze over the pastelitos before baking.
-
7
Bake at 400 degrees F or until golden brown.

Allow pastelitos to cool for at least 10 minutes before eating. Disfruta! (Enjoy!)
