In 2-quart saucepan, mix sugar, salt, cocoa, corn syrup and milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until cocoa and sugar are dissolved.

Cook, stirring occasionally, to 234u00b0 on a candy thermometer, or until small amount of mixture dropped into very cold water forms a soft ball which flattens when removed from water.

Cool mixture to 115u00b0 without stirring; bottom of pan will be lukewarm.

Add vanilla. Beat vigorously for 5 minutes with wooden spoon until candy is thick and no longer glossy.
