Italian sausage; 1 large onion, finely chopped; 1/2 green pepper, finely chopped; 12 oz. tomato paste; 1 tsp. sugar; 2 large cans tomato puree; 1 large can crushed tomatoes; 1 can mushrooms or 1/4 lb. fresh; 3/4 c. white wine; parsley; oregano; garlic; basil; Parmesan cheese to serve

2 Tbsp. olive oil
2 lb. ground beef (lean)
1 lb. Italian sausage
1 large onion, finely chopped
1/2 green pepper, finely chopped
12 oz. tomato paste
1 tsp. sugar
2 large cans tomato puree
1 large can crushed tomatoes
1 can mushrooms or 1/4 lb. fresh
3/4 c. white wine
parsley
oregano
garlic
basil
Parmesan cheese to serve

Cut sausage in chunks or remove from casings and crumble. Brown meats in as little oil as possible.

Add onion and fresh garlic with green pepper and saute until tender.

Add all tomato products and the mushrooms.

If fresh mushrooms are used, saute with onions.

Add sugar and white wine.

Season with herbs to taste.

Simmer for several hours over very low heat.

Stir occasionally.
