1
There are 2 methods.
-
2
Whatever method you choose remember to always wipe from the inside corner to the edges.
-
3
Never from the outside edges inward.
-
4
It takes patience if the stains have set in.
-
5
Keep praising your dog while you work.
-
6
First method is to soak a gauze pads with baby oil and gently wipe in an outward motion away from the corner of the eye.
-
7
If there are crusty pieces, the oil will remove the whole thing.
-
8
But don't force anything near the eyes.
-
9
If there are set in stains well below the eyes, you can break them up with your fingers and wipe away.
-
10
Second method is using baby wipes.
-
11
I found it takes a little longer this way and if your dog is a squirmer someone has to hold their head still.
-
12
Finish by wiping off excess oil with a tissue.
-
13
If you want to use a paper towel, make sure it's a little damp.
-
14
NEVER use cotton balls since they shred and can get caught in the eye and lashes.
-
15
Give treat(s) and praise them constantly.
-
16
Do this once a week and there will be no build up.
-
17
Hint: Starting to clean a dogs eyes can overwhelm them at first.
-
18
Have patience and never force them or have someone hold them tight.
-
19
Be gentle and calm with them each and every time.
-
20
Eventually they will become accustomed to this.
