Cream together sugar, butter and shortening until fluffy with electric mixer.

Add Herman and Vanilla and beat only until combined.

In another bowl, mix flour, baking soda and spices.

Add Herman mixture mixing until well combined.

Fold in oats, nuts and raisins or chocolate chips.

( Altered with 2 cups chocolate chips in place of of raisins and nuts)

Drop by teaspoon onto a lightly greased baking sheets.

Bake at 375F (190C) about 10 minutes or until lightly brown on the edges.

Make about 4 dozens of cookies.

I make this recipe and double it and make bigger cookies, also I substitute Chocolate chips for nuts and raisins because I am allergic to nuts and my kids hated raisins... Also doubled it as I always had an extra cup of the *sour dough starter.
