1
Grease a baking dish and line it with 16 frozen dough balls.
-
2
Allow 3-5 hours for the dough to rise.
-
3
Once the dough has had time to rise... Preheat oven to 350F.
-
4
In a small bowl mix together the Char Siu ingredients.
-
5
Whisk and set aside.
-
6
In a large skillet, brown the meat over medium-high heat.
-
7
When it starts to brown, reduce the heat to medium and add the scallion, garlic, ginger and water chestnuts and cook for one minute.
-
8
Next stir in the Char Siu sauce and bring the heat to a simmer.
-
9
In a small cup dissolve the cornstarch in the cold water.
-
10
Then add the mixture to the skillet, stirring constantly for several minutes, until thickened.
-
11
Remove from heat and allow the filling to cool for 10 minutes.
-
12
Next separate the bread rolls and flatten each one onto a foil-lined, greased baking sheet.
-
13
Add 1 Tablespoon of the filling into the center of each roll.
-
14
Next fold up the sides and pinch to close.
-
15
Place pinch-side down on the baking sheet (you can use the same dish you used for dough rising).
-
16
Whisk the egg and water together and brush it over the top of each of the stuffed rolls.
-
17
Bake for 15-20 minutes and serve warm.
