Beat eggs with 1/3 cup sugar until sugar is dissolved. Add other ingredients. Set aside.

Melt remaining sugar in skillet (I use a non-stick 9 inch cake pan and melt the sugar right in the pan on top of the stove). Stir the sugar gently to help melt it. When it is melted and caramel colored tilt the pan to coat the sides and bottom of pan with sugar syrup until sugar cools enough to stop moving.

Pour in egg and milk mixture. Bake in a very slow oven (275-300 degrees) for about 1 1/2 hours or until the custard is set. Shut off oven and leave flan inside for about 30 minutes with door shut. Cool completely in pan before inverting on serving plate. Best when refrigerated several hours.
