   Clean birds and split them down the back.

   Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

   Brown in bacon drippings in a heavy skillet for 20 minutes, turning frequently.

   Add lemon juice and water; cover and bake at 350u00b0 for about 45 minutes or until tender.

   Baste frequently during baking, adding water, if necessary, to prevent sticking to the pan.
