1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
2 tbsp. lowfat milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 c. minced dates
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
1/2 teaspoon lemon rind
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1/4 c. minced nuts

Sift together flour, baking pwdr, salt, soda and sugar.

Cut in shortening.

Blend in egg, lowfat milk and vanilla.

Mix till well blended and smooth.

Roll out to 1/8 inch thick.

Cut with 2 1/2 inch cutter.

Combine dates, sugar, and water; cook for 15 min or possibly till thick, stir constantly.
