1 c. molasses
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 c. raisins
1 c. nuts
4 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. soda, dissolved in 1 c. hot coffee

Mix as for butter cake, adding molasses after sugar, then beaten eggs.

Sift dry ingredients together and stir in chopped raisins and nuts.

Add some of flour mixture to sugar mixture, beat well, then add coffee and flour mixture, alternately.

Drop on greased cookie sheet and bake in 375u00b0 oven until done, about 15 minutes.
