   Blend the shortening and sugar; then add the well-beaten egg and the coconut.

   Mix and sift the flour and baking powder and add alternately with the milk to the first mixture.

   Beat well together.

   Bake in a shallow greased pan in moderate oven (300u00b0) for 30 minutes.

   Cut in finger lengths and roll in coconut.
