This recipe requires 2 clean, new, grocery sacks to cook the snack mix in the microwave.
-
2
Double line a clean, new, grocery sack.
-
3
Put Crispix cereal into grocery sack.
-
4
Its best not to dump the box of cereal into the sack to avoid getting all the crumbs and small, broken bits in the snack mix.
-
5
Heat corn syrup, brown sugar, butter and salt in a medium saucepan until liquid comes to a boil.
-
6
When mixture comes to a boil, remove from heat.
-
7
Add vanilla and baking soda, stir to combine.
-
8
Pour hot liquid over cereal.
-
9
Fold down bag at the top to close it near the level of the cereal, and gently turn/flip/shake bag around to thoroughly mix and coat all cereal pieces.
-
10
Place grocery sack in the microwave (high power) for 1 1/2 minutes.
-
11
Its probably not going to turn in the microwave because its so large.
-
12
Dont worry, it will be fine!
-
13
Without opening the bag, turn/flip/gently shake bag to stir.
-
14
Microwave for 1 minute.
-
15
Shake bag.
-
16
Microwave for 30 seconds.
-
17
Shake bag.
-
18
Place caramel cereal on wax paper to cool and discard grocery sacks.
-
19
Add your favorite candies or pretzels to the Caramel Cereal Mix and store in zip top bags or an airtight container.
-
20
Note: Crispix-like cereal seems to hold up best in this recipe.

If you choose to substitute a Chex or similar type cereal, I suggest Corn Chex rather than Rice Chex for a hardier cereal.
