Bring the water to boil in a large pot.

If you are making the homemade stock add the bones to the water and bring it to a boil for about an hour. When finished remove bones from the pot.

Start by cutting the beef into roughly 1 inch cubes and then sauteing in a frying pan until browned all over. Then using a slotted spoon add beef to stock or add to the pot of boiling water.

Next saute onions and garlic until just browned and then add to the pot.

Deglaze frying pan with red wine and add to the pot.

Add both Spices and the can of tomatoes. Bring pot to a boil, cover and cook for 4-5 hours or more. 30 minutes before serving uncover and add beans to the pot. When ready to serve, serve with a slice of crusty bread. Best enjoyed on a cold day.
