Place the golden syrup, sugar, milk and raisins in a small saucepan on medium heat. Stir gently until the sugar has dissolved. Cool. Mix in the lemon peel and egg.

Sift the flour, salt and baking powder into a large bowl. Stir in the walnuts. Gradually stir in the raisin mixture. Pour into the prepared pan.

Bake for about 1 hour, until golden brown and toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Cool in pan 5 mins. Remove from pan; cool completely on wire rack.
