Victorian Walnut Cake(From The White House Cookbook, 1887)

   Cream together the sugar and butter; add next 4 ingredients. Fill the cake pan with a layer of cake dough; add a layer of raisins upon the cake batter, then strew over these a handful of nuts and so on until the pan is 2/3 full.

   Line the tins with well-buttered paper.

   Bake in a steady, but not quick, 325u00b0 to 350u00b0 oven.
