   dissolve cocoa into boiling water set aside to cool.

   cream shortening and sugar.add egg 1at a time beating after each.

   mix the rest of the dry ingredients and add alternately with milk.

   add vanilla and cocoa mixture.

   mix well.

   poor into 2 or 3- 9 inch pans.

   bake at 350 for 30 mins
