7 pound green tomatoes, sliced
2 gallons cool water
3 c. lime
5 pound sugar
3 pt. vinegar
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon celery seed

Soak tomatoes in water in that lime has been dissolved (strain before putting in tomatoes).

Soak 24 hrs in lime water.

Drain and soak for 4 hrs in fresh, cool water.

Change water every hour.

Make a syrup of sugar, vinegar and remaining spices.

Bring to a boil.

Pour over tomatoes and let stand overnight.

Next morning, boil 1 hour and seal in warm jars.
