   mix dry ingredients together until well blended. add eggs and gradually stir in milk until smooth. cook over medium heat until thick stirring all the while. careful not to let it scorch. cool slightly and add vanilla and butter. stir until blended and continue to cool completely before using as pudding or pie filling.
