Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and beat until light and fluffy. Add orange peel, corn syrup and water, mix well. Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture. Chill dough.

On a floured surface (or between parchment paper) roll out dough until it is 1/8 inch thick. Cut into shapes with a cookie cutter. Please one inch apart on an a Silpat baking mat on an ungreased cookie sheet.

If you are going to trim cookies add sanding sugar or blanched almonds before they go into the oven.

Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Cool slightly and then move to a rack to cool.

If you are adding the lemon glaze, wait until they have finished cooling. Glaze will set in about 20 minutes.
