Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

1.Cream the butter with 1/2 cup of the powdered sugar.

2.Add flour and salt and mix well.

3.If using nuts, add them to the dough mixture and mix well.

4.Roll the dough out into a square, 1/2 inch thick. Using a sharp knife cut the dough into one inch squares.

5.Take the squares and shape them into balls about 1 inch in diameter and then with the palm of your hand, flatten the cookie. Place the cookies on a non-stick cookie sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until lightly brown on the bottom.

6.Let cookies cool for a few minutes and then put the remaining 1/4 cup powdered sugar on a plate and roll the cookies in the sugar and shake off.
