1/2 c. margarine or butter, softened
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
6 oz. pkg. (1 c.) chocolate chips
1 c. M&M's
12 caramels

Heat oven to 375u00b0.

In large bowl, beat brown sugar, sugar, margarine and shortening until light and fluffy.

Add vanilla and egg; beat well.

Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off.

Add flour, baking soda and salt; mix well.

Spread dough in ungreased 13 x 9-inch pan. Sprinkle with 1 cup M&M's and 12 caramels, quartered.
