Shoo-Fly Pie

   Combine brown sugar, flour and shortening until crumbly. Reserve 1/4 cup of crumbs for topping.

   To the remaining crumbs, add syrup, 1 egg and baking soda, which has been dissolved in the hot water.

   Mix well; batter will be thin.

   Pour into pie shell and top with crumbs.

   Bake at 400u00b0 for 20 minutes.

   Reduce to 350u00b0 for additional 25 minutes.

   Yields 1 (9-inch) pie.
