Name: Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients: 1/2 c. shortening; 1 1/2 c. sugar; 2 eggs; 1 tsp. salt; 1 Tbsp. cocoa; 1 tsp. soda; 1 c. buttermilk; 2 c. cake flour; 2 oz. red food coloring; 1 tsp. vanilla; 1 Tbsp. vinegar

Sift dry ingredients, except soda.

Add shortening, food color, vanilla and 2/3 cup buttermilk.

Beat well.

Add eggs and remaining milk.

Beat 1 minute.

Mix vinegar and soda.

Add to mixture and blend by hand.

Pour into 2 greased and floured round cake pans. Bake at 350u00b0 for 30 minutes.

Frost with Cooked White Icing.
