Mix 1/2 cup of sugar, the butter, vanilla extract, eggs and salt in a bowl. Pour in the remaining milk and knead everything with the dough hook of a hand mixer into a smooth dough. Knead in the raisins, cover and keep in a warm place for 45 more mins. Mix the rest of the sugar and the cinnamon.

Heat the oil to 350u00b0F. Cut smallish pieces from the dough with a tablespoon, form them into balls and cook them in batches in the hot oil until golden. While they're still hot, sprinkle them with the cinnamon sugar.
