Scrub the potatoes to clean the skin. Heat a pot with water and add the potatoes to boil.

When the potatoes are soft enough through boiling, remove from heat and pour water out. Peel each potato and gently chop into small, crushed pieces. The potatoes can be put onto the serving plates to cool for now.

While the potatoes are still cooling down, we will make the sauce to pour over. Melt the butter in a saucepan and add the salt. Give the butter time to melt completely. Season with pepper.

Crush the garlic and chop the onion. Either cover a pan with little olive oil or s blob of butter and lightly fry the garlic and onion until lightly golden and cooked.

Drop the garlic and onion into the melted butter saucepan and stir for a minute. The sauce is now ready.

Pour the buttery sauce over the chopped potatoes already on the 2 serving plates. Sprinkle with some grated cheddar cheese, if desired.
