1 lb dried kidney beans
4 quarts water
1 large smoked ham shank
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup chopped onion
1 garlic clove, minced
2 tablespoons salt
½ teaspoon pepper
2 cups cubed potatoes
1 ½ cups diced carrots
6 cups shredded cabbage
8 ounces uncooked spaghetti, broken into small pieces

Wash & drain beans.

In an 8 qt kettle, bring water to boil.

Add beans, ham, tomato sauce, onion,garlic, salt, and pepper.

Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer covered 5 hrs (you could use a crock pot).

Add potatoes, carrots, cabage, and spaghetti.

Bring to a boil.

Reduce heat and simmer uncoverd 15-20 minutes or until potatoes are tender.

Remove ham.

Remove meat from the bone and cube.

Return meat to soup.
