1/2 c. soft butter or margarine
1/4 tsp. anise flavoring
1/4 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. cardamon
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1 c. chopped almonds
1/2 c. chopped citron
powdered sugar

Cream the butter, anise flavoring and sugars.

Blend in egg. Add flour, salt and spices.

Blend thoroughly.

Stir in chopped almonds and citron.

Chill in refrigerator a few hours.

Shape dough into 1-inch balls using about a teaspoon of dough for each. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake in a 350u00b0 oven for about 10 minutes.
