Thoroughly combine all the ingredients, cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. ( A little longer is better)

Core and seed the bell peppers and slice into thin strips. Peel the onion and slice thinly. Mince the garlic.

Heat the oil in a large saute pan and add the peppers. After a few minutes, add the sliced onion. Saute over medium heat until the peppers and onions soften. This could take about 10 minutes.

Add the garlic, salt and pepper and saute a few more minutes until the garlic becomes fragrant.

Stir in the water and tomato sauce, bring up to a simmer and simmer with the pan partially covered until the peppers become very soft and the sauce thickens up a bit. Stir in the basil and oregano.

Form the turkey mixture into 4 patties and grill them on an oiled grill over medium heat. About a minute or two before the patties are done, place a slice of cheese on top.

Place the burgers on the buns and top with some of the peperonata.
