Pasta With Bechamel Sauce

   In a small saucepan, heat milk and bay leaf over low heat to just below boiling point.

   Remove from heat.

   Discard bay leaf. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.

   Stir in flour. Cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

   Remove from heat. Gradually stir in hot milk.

   Return to pan to heat.

   Stir until thick and smooth.

   Reduce heat to low and cook 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

   Season with salt and pepper.

    (If sauce is not to be used immediately, cover with plastic wrap.)
