Cook the tomatoes in boiling water for 3 minutes. Remove them from the water and place them in cold water for a few moments. Take them out, peel them and either mash them up or chop into small pieces.

Add the tomatoes, butter, onion, water, and a pinch of sugar to a pot. Mix well.

Cook everything on medium heat and once the mixture begins to boil, lower the heat and cover the pot. Allow everything to cook for 40 minutes.

Once the excess liquid has evaporated and the sauce is somewhat thick, remove the onion.

Add a pinch of salt and black pepper. Turn up the heat and bring to a boil. Add a couple of tablespoons of tomato sauce if needed.

Pour on your favorite pasta or set it aside to use for other pasta sauce recipes.
