1
Preheat your oven to 450F.
-
2
Combine 1/4 cup flour, salt, pepper and cayenne in a bowl that is large enough to dip the onions into.
-
3
In another similar-sized bowl, combine the buttermilk, egg and remaining 1/4 cup flour.
-
4
Whisk until a smooth batter is formed.
-
5
Have all your ingredients nearby to minimize the mess.
-
6
Youll need your seasoned flour, then the batter and finally a bowl containing your crushed chips all at arms length.
-
7
Cover a baking sheet with a piece of parchment.
-
8
Drizzle with 3 Tablespoons of vegetable oil then pop it into the hot oven for 8 minutes, or until the oil just starts to smoke.
-
9
Carefully remove the baking sheet from the oven and rotate to evenly coat with oil.
-
10
Dip an onion ring into the seasoned flour.
-
11
This will help the batter to adhere, which helps the chips to adhere.
-
12
They all work together deliciously.
-
13
After the seasoned flour, dip the onion into the buttermilk batter.
-
14
Let the excess batter dribble off before you coat the wet ring with the crushed chips.
-
15
You will need to use your hands a bit to make sure the chips adhere.
-
16
Repeat this process with all the onion rings.
-
17
Quickly place your onion rings on the baking sheet then return to the oven.
-
18
Bake for 8 minutes then flip each ring over before baking for another 8 minutes.
