Never-Fail Divinity

   Cook the sugar, corn syrup and water in a heavy saucepan. Cook until syrup reaches a firm ball stage.

   Beat egg whites with salt until stiff, moist peaks form.

   Add half the syrup gradually to egg whites, beating constantly.

   Return remaining syrup to stove to boil again, then gradually beat into egg whites and continue beating until dry.

   Add vanilla and nuts, beating in by hand.

   Drop by spoonful on wax paper.

   Cool.

   For Christmas, add red and green food coloring.
