turn on the cooker to medium low and put the oil in a frying pan and place over the stove

chop the onions and garlic in thin slices

when the oil is hot add the onions and garlic and stir

get another pot preferably non stick deep pot and empty the cans of Crabeye beans afta emptying the water and rinsing it with cold water for a few seconds

add cold water to the beans at about an inch over the beans and turn on the cooker

keep stirring the onions and garlic to make sure it doesn't burn

when onions have softened add black pepper and Maggie cubes and stir till it's all mixed in together

then open a can of chopped tomatoes and pour over onions and stir

check the beans and give it a quick stir and be careful not to bring it to the boil as it may toughen up

add tomato puree to the chopped tomatoes and stir

add the salt to the beans

keep stirring the tomatoes to prevent it from burning or sticking to the pan.

when the tomatoes become like the tomato puree consistency turn fire off and add the sauce to the beans and some more water if needs be and mix.

at this point you can add the salt and turn the fire on high for about 5 minutes then to medium low until it's cooked.

keep checking to make sure the sauce hasn't run dry

depending on your stove it should be cooked for about 1 hour to 1 hour and a half.

by then the beans will be nice and soft and the tomato sauce would've thickened (make sure sauce is not too thick, it needs to be a little bit runny).

you can add more salt and pepper if needed.

it can be eaten like that or with your choice of meat, fish or chicken
