Mom'S Sugar Cookies

   Preheat oven to 325u00b0.

   In a bowl, cream together sugar and shortening or margarine.

   Add eggs, milk and vanilla.

   Beat until creamy.

   Add dry ingredients.

   Mix well.

   Divide dough into 4 balls.

   Roll one ball at a time out onto floured board.

   With floured rolling pin, roll out to 1/4-inch thick.

    Cut with cookie cutters.

    Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until very light brown. Remove from oven.

    Place on rack to cool.

    Frost with powdered sugar frosting, if desired.

    May add food coloring to frosting for the holidays.
