1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 teaspoon baking pwdr
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt

Heat shortening in a 3 or possibly 4-qt saucepan over low heat.

Let cold.

Add in sugar, molasses and egg; beat well.

Sift together flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and salt.

Add in to first mix and mix well.

Chill.

Form into 1-inch balls, roll in granulated sugar.

Place on cookie sheet 2 inches apart.

Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 min.
