1
Prepare a sterilized glass jar with an airtight lid.
-
2
Peel the oranges, and separate into single sections.
-
3
Put all of the ingredients (2 oranges, 2 tablespoons honey, and water) into the jar.
-
4
The next step is to shake the jar once a day, or stir it with a stir stick, open the lid and smell it.
-
5
Day 1: This is what it should look like after all the ingredients are combined.
-
6
Day 3: The mixture should be cloudy and start to form tiny bubbles.
-
7
Day 6: It should be bubbly.
-
8
Just one more day!
-
9
Day 7: The oranges should be floating, and the mixture should be fizzy.
-
10
Fizz!
-
11
Strain out the oranges through a tea strainer.
-
12
If you don't plan to use the liquid yeast right away, you can store the mixture in the refrigerator without straining out the oranges.
-
13
Store in jar.
-
14
I store it in the crisper drawer of my refrigerator.
-
15
It should be used up within a month.
-
16
If you leave 1 spoonful of the liquid yeast and add it to a new jar of mixture, it should fizz up within 24 hours.
-
17
Just add 1 mandarin orange, 2 tablespoons honey, water and 1 tablespoon of the liquid yeast.
