Season with salt and black pepper, remove from the pan and keep warm. Melt 3 tbsp butter in the hot pan and fry the onions and apples for 4 mins, turning.

In a saucepan, heat the milk and 3 tbsp butter. Drain the potatoes, add the milk mixture and mash. Season with salt and nutmeg.
