3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
1/4 c. lemon juice
3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
1 Tbsp. grated lemon rind
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
3 egg whites

Mix sugar and cornstarch in a 2-quart saucepan.

Stir over medium heat, bringing mixture to boil.
