Heat oven to 350u00b0. Grease and flour a large cookie sheet. Beat egg whites and salt until soft peaks form. Add sugar gradually, beating well after each addition. Beat until stiff and glossy. Beat egg yolks and vanilla until thick and lemon colored. Add to egg whites and fold in gently but quickly. Fold in flour. Press through a pastry tube or cookie press, with large plain tip, into strips 2 1/2 inches long onto prepared cookie sheet. (If you don't have a pastry tube or cookie press, shape rounded teaspoonfuls of batter into strips.) Bake 8-10 minutes or until set and very lightly browned on the bottom. remove from sheets and cool on racks. Store in tightly closed tin box.
