Preheat oven to 350u00b0F. Grease a 13x9 baking dish.

In a 3-quart saucepan, bring sugar, butter and water to a boil. Take off heat and add in vegetable oil, cocoa and morsels; stir until it melts. The mixture will get very thick and look like paste. Cool slightly.

Add in eggs one at a time, beating until well blended after the addition of each egg.

Stir in the vanilla, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt to the mixture.

Add the chopped nuts (if using) and blend well.

Pour mixture into greased pan, scraping the side of the saucepan with a spatula. Bake in the oven for 30 to 35 minutes.

Brownies are done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack.
